Surge Relief Skids
A surge relief skid is a protection system designed to relieve transient pressure surges and safeguard pipelines and equipment.

SURGE RELIEF SKIDS
A surge relief skid is a critical protection system designed to mitigate transient pressure surges (water hammer) in liquid systems by relieving excess pressure and limiting hydraulic disturbances.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
System Components
- Surge Relief Valve: Provides immediate pressure relief during transient overpressure events.
- Surge Vessel or Accumulator: Absorbs and dampens pressure fluctuations.
- Pressure Instrumentation: Continuously monitors line and system pressure conditions.
- Piping & Manifolds: Routes relieved fluid safely to storage vessels or designated discharge locations.
- Isolation Valves: Enables maintenance and isolation for safe system control.
- Surge Pumps: Transfers accumulated crude/fluid from surge accumulation vessels back into the system or storage.
Engineering Capabilities
- Overpressure Protection: Protects pipelines, pumps and downstream equipment from transient overpressure and hydraulic shocks.
- Transient Event Response: Rapidly responds to operational triggers such as sudden pump trips, fast valve closures, or sudden flow changes.
- Asset Longevity: Reduces mechanical stress on piping and equipment, extending total system operational life.
- Controlled Fluid Handling: Provides safe and controlled containment/handling of relieved fluids.
Application Areas
- Liquid Pipelines: Hydrocarbon, crude oil and industrial water pipelines.
- Pumping & Transfer Stations: Mainline pump stations and fluid transfer facilities.
- Terminal & Storage Facilities: Tank farms, loading/unloading terminals and marine facilities.
- Process Plants: Industrial facilities experiencing dynamic flow conditions.
- Long-Distance Transmission Systems: High-pressure fluid delivery networks.
